The first meeting of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs of the 13th National Parliament was held

The first meeting of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs of the 13th National Parliament was held today, Thursday (13 August 2026) at the National Parliament House under the chairmanship of the Committee Chairman, Zainul Abedin, MP.

An introductory session was held at the beginning of the meeting. The meeting identified drugs and gambling as one of the main problems of the country and emphasized the need to take effective steps to eradicate them. Stating that all members of the great National Parliament are on a zero tolerance policy against drugs, it was urged on all concerned to play a more effective and coordinated role in addition to increasing public awareness in eradicating drugs. It was also informed in the meeting that several effective steps have already been taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs to eradicate drugs, including operating mobile courts, forming tribunals and courts with jurisdiction.

It was also informed in the meeting that 100% transparency has been maintained in the police recruitment process in the last six months, impartially, without any political influence or partisanship.

Then, the overall law and order situation of the country and the activities taken to ensure public safety were reviewed. The overall activities of the Ministry of Home Affairs were presented to the committee through a presentation.

In the meeting, the budget of the Ministry of Home Affairs and its subordinate organizations for the fiscal year 2026-27 by sector-wise division and expenditure plan and detailed information regarding the budget of all organizations under the ministry for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2027 by sector-wise division and expenditure of all organizations under the ministry were presented to the committee.

During the presentation of the budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 in the meeting, it was informed that the total proposed budget of the Ministry of Home Affairs is Tk 31,099 crore. Out of this, the operating budget is Tk 28,638 crore 79 lakh and the development budget is Tk 2,460 crore 21 lakh.

In the meeting, the concerned ministries and organizations were called upon to play a more effective role in further improving the law and order situation of the country, ensuring public safety, eradicating drugs and suppressing crime. At the same time, the importance of continuing the necessary cooperation and effective supervision by the Parliamentary Standing Committee in these activities was emphasized.

The meeting was attended by committee members and Minister of Home Affairs Salahuddin Ahmed, MP, Whip of the National Assembly Rakibul Islam, MP, Whip of the National Assembly Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu, MP, Mir Shahe Alam, MP, Md. Kamruzzaman, MP, Md. Monowar Hossain, MP, Shirin Sultana, MP, Md. Nurul Islam, MP and Md. Abdul Baten, MP.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Directors General of the Directorates under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Brigadier Generals and other senior officials, heads of relevant organizations and relevant officials of the National Assembly Secretariat.
