Home Affairs Advisor Lt. Gen. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said that retired members of various law enforcement agencies will be appointed to control traffic in the capital. Currently 700 students are working in traffic control in DMP area. Similarly, community policing is being contemplated with retired police, army, air force, navy, BGB, Ansar who have served in traffic control. Initially around 500 people may be employed in this work. And in this case the age limit will also be fixed.
The advisor said these things during the press briefing at the end of the 4th meeting of the advisory council committee on law and order in the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital on Sunday (November 24, 2024).

The advisor said that the issue of banning battery-powered rickshaws is under the jurisdiction of the High Court. We are implementing the High Court order. The Law Ministry is expected to receive instructions from the High Court in this regard. We will take necessary action as per instructions. He said, we hope that a good decision and direction will come from the high court in this regard. According to that directive, the ongoing problem with autorickshaws will be solved.
Responding to journalists’ questions about harassment through fake and false cases, Lt. Gen. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said, “We are taking necessary legal measures to prevent false and false cases.” The advisor said, we are making a committee so that those who have been accused in such false cases should not be subjected to any kind of harassment. We have made a proposal of the committee, but it has not been finalized yet. He said that the district level committee will have a member of District Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and District Legal Aid Committee. Along with the police, the committee will determine who is actually guilty. The committee will also ensure that no one is subjected to harassment.
In the meeting, things to be done to improve the law and order situation across the country, maintaining law and order on the occasion of World Ijtema, overall security and other relevant issues, High Court’s directive to ban auto-rickshaws on the roads, celebrating Victory Day, arresting the miscreants, taking steps to stop harassment through fake cases, things to be done to improve the road traffic system, Various issues were discussed including taking effective measures to prevent drug abuse.
