A meeting and prayer mahfil were held in memory of Zia Parishad Chairman, renowned ophthalmologist and heroic freedom fighter Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Quddus on Saturday (May 2, 2026) at the TSC Auditorium of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University in the capital.
Acting Chairman of Zia Parishad and Vice-Chancellor of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Dr. Md. Abdul Latif presided over the function, with Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir present as the chief guest.
Regarding the activities of Zia Parishad, Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that more research is needed on the life, philosophy and various aspects of state governance of martyred President Ziaur Rahman. He expressed hope that Zia Parishad can play an important role in this regard. He called for expanding the scope of the organization to present accurate historical information to the public.
The minister said, Professor Dr. Abdul Quddus was an idealistic, honest and unassuming person, who made outstanding contributions in his personal and professional life. As a heroic freedom fighter, he worked for the country, as well as dedicated himself to serving the people as a doctor. His life is an exemplary example for us.
At the end of the memorial service, prayers were offered for the departed soul and deep condolences were expressed to the bereaved family members. Eminent personalities and students participated in the program.
