RAB to be restructured as a people-friendly and responsible force – Home Minister

Desk Report:

In the coming days, RAB will be restructured as a people-friendly and responsible force, said Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed.

The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at a program organized on the occasion of the 22nd founding anniversary of RAB Forces at the RAB Forces Headquarters in Uttara in the capital on Monday (May 18, 2026) afternoon.

The minister said that the current democratic government has taken various plans to restructure RAB as a people-friendly and responsible force. Notable among these are – to increase the capacity and efficiency of RAB members and to seriously include the issue of minimum use of force, human rights training, and the use of AI in crime prevention while maintaining international standards while conducting various operations. For this purpose, a specialized training center will be established for RAB Forces in Jungle Salimpur very soon.

He further said that the capacity and activities of RAB will be further improved by adopting timely strategies considering the changing types and strategies of crime. The plan also includes increasing engagement with the public, gaining public trust, maintaining human rights, rule of law and professional ethics standards, and playing an effective role in building a safe and stable society. At the same time, it was also said that the RAB law should be quickly enacted to ensure transparency and accountability.

The minister further said that during the fascist government, no institution in the country was free from damage. The entire institution cannot be held responsible for the illegal activities of a few officials. Institutions will have to work while maintaining their reputation and dignity. There will be no political interference from the government in this regard. The government’s goal is to establish the rule of law by ensuring accountability and responsibility of all institutions.

Salahuddin Ahmed said that an elite force is needed to quickly control and normalize the law and order situation in the country. In that regard, initiatives have been taken to make RAB up-to-date and world-class by changing and amending the existing law of RAB, so that transparency and accountability can be ensured along with the professionalism of the force. At the same time, the issue of changing the name of RAB is also being considered.

He further said that RAB was established during the tenure of the BNP government in 2001, considering the need for an elite force to control the law and order situation. At that time, RAB was used for specific purposes. Later, there are allegations of using it for political purposes during the fascist government, due to which RAB as an institution has been damaged.

The Prime Minister’s Information, Policy and Strategy and Cultural Affairs Advisor Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman was present as a special guest at the event. IGP Md. Ali Hossain Fakir delivered the welcome speech. RAB Director General Md. Ahsan Habib Palash delivered the welcome speech.

The chiefs of the three services, heads of various departments and organizations under the Ministry of Home Affairs, and various military and civilian officials were present at the event.
