Bangladesh Seeks to Boost Korean Investment in Technology and AI Sectors

South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Kim Ji-joon paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (September 29, 2026). During the meeting, discussions were held regarding the long-standing friendly and close relations between Bangladesh and South Korea, as well as ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

State Minister Humayun Kabir stated that Bangladesh attaches great importance to its long-standing, close, and friendly ties with the Republic of Korea. He highlighted the growing cooperation between the two nations across various sectors, including trade, investment, development cooperation, human resource development, and technology.

The meeting also covered the State Minister’s upcoming visit to South Korea. During the visit, he is expected to hold meetings with senior government officials and representatives of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

The State Minister will also convey an invitation from the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to the President of South Korea to visit Bangladesh. Humayun Kabir remarked that his upcoming visit would pave the way for broader engagement and interaction between the two countries in the future.

Ambassador Kim Ji-joon welcomed the initiative to personally convey the Prime Minister’s invitation. He described it as a positive step toward further strengthening the bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and South Korea.

The conclusion of negotiations regarding the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Bangladesh and South Korea was also discussed. The State Minister expressed hope that this agreement would play a significant role in further expanding trade and investment between the two nations.

Opportunities for increased Korean investment in Bangladesh were also discussed. Both sides exchanged views on the potential to boost Korean investment, particularly in sectors such as technology, artificial intelligence (AI), shipbuilding, electronics, and other high-value-added and technology-driven industries. Ambassador Kim Ji-jun commended the growing partnership between Bangladesh and South Korea and expressed South Korea’s interest in further strengthening bilateral cooperation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest and deepening the relationship between Bangladesh and South Korea.
