Desk Report:
On the occasion of International Workers’ Day, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid deep tribute to workers who were martyred at different times, recalling their sacrifices at the beginning of a workers’ rally.

He respectfully remembered the workers who laid down their lives during the 1971 Liberation War, those who sacrificed themselves in the anti-autocracy movement of 1990, and 72 members of the workers’ wing who were killed during the student-led mass movement in July–August 2024.

The Prime Minister said that on August 5, 2024, the people of Bangladesh ousted authoritarian rule through a united student-public movement. He noted that during that period, working people were deprived of their rights, the economy suffered from widespread plunder, and industries were gradually shut down and ultimately destroyed.

Emphasizing the present moment as a time for rebuilding the nation, he said that workers, teachers, students, women, and men must work together to move the country forward. Highlighting public participation in development, he reiterated the slogan: “We will work, we will build the country—Bangladesh first,” describing it as both the current and future guiding principle.

Calling on all to take a pledge on this significant day, he urged citizens to prepare themselves as “nation-building workers” and dedicate their lives to the country’s progress.
This was his first public rally at Nayapaltan after assuming office as Prime Minister.

Among others who addressed the rally were Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, along with leaders from affiliated organizations.
Also present were Labour Party President Anwar Hossain, Chief Coordinator and MP Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, MP Aman Ullah Aman, Administrator Abdus Salam, State Minister Sultan Salauddin Tuku, State Minister Aminul Haque, and other leaders from various levels. Representatives from Dhaka North and South City Corporations, as well as leaders from Jubo Dal, Krishak Dal, and Chhatra Dal, also spoke at the event.
