A delegation led by Simone Parchment, Bangladesh Representative of the World Food Programme (WFP), met with Mahdi Amin, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Spokesperson of the Office, at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon in the capital on Tuesday (May 5, 2026). Deputy Head of Programme Marybeth Black, Head of Supply Chain Catherine Clare, Head of School Feeding Emma Clara Lefu and Senior Partnership Advisor Md. Mohsin participated in the delegation.
The meeting discussed in detail the ‘Mid Day Meal’ programme adopted by the Bangladesh government. A fruitful exchange of views was held on various aspects of ensuring quality and nutritious food for the students of the country.
The advisor mentioned in the meeting that the government of Begum Khaleda Zia initiated this program when she was the head of the government. He also said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been highlighting the importance of the ‘Mid-Day Meal’ program for many years in his election manifesto and various speeches. Because he believes that nutritious food is very important for the mental and physical development of children. The Prime Minister is responsible for ensuring their good health and good education. In this context, the representatives of the World Food Program provided important suggestions in the light of their experience.
In addition, the meeting discussed various aspects to make the ‘Mid-Day Meal’ program more transparent, accountable and effective. In particular, emphasis was placed on strengthening monitoring and supervision and making the upazila-level committees more active and effective.
