Prime Minister pledges to ensure communal harmony and security on Buddhist Purnima

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that the government is determined to ensure peace and security for every person in the country, regardless of party, creed, religion or caste. He stressed that the main responsibility of the government is to build a state and society where all citizens can freely practice their religious customs and practices and enjoy equal rights.

He said these things while exchanging greetings with leaders of the Buddhist community on the occasion of Buddha Purnima at the Public Administration Meeting Room of the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat on Thursday (April 30, 2026) morning.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Religious Affairs Minister Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad, Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan, State Minister Mir Helal Uddin and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Hindu, Buddhist, Christian and Ethnic Affairs Bijan Kanti Sarkar were present at the event.

Besides, Member of Parliament from Bandarban Hill District, Saching Pru Jerry, Reserved Women Member of Parliament candidate Madhavi Marma and eminent person Dr. Sukomal Barua were present.

The Prime Minister was presented with a greeting crest and a portrait of Gautam Buddha by the Buddhist community at the event.
