Philippine Ambassador Calls for Strengthening Philippines-Bangladesh Economic, Cultural Ties

Diplomatic Desk:

The Philippine Society in Bangladesh (PSB) has organized a colorful cultural program for Filipinos living in Bangladesh to mark the 128th Independence Day of the Philippines. Members of the Filipino community in Bangladesh, diplomats, guests and well-wishers participated in the program held at a prestigious hotel in Dhaka on Friday (June 26, 2026).

Philippine Ambassador to Bangladesh Nina P. Cainglet was present as the chief guest at the program. In her speech, she said that the independence of the Philippines is not only an important chapter in history, but also a symbol of the continuing responsibility to build the future as an independent and sovereign nation. She said that the theme of this year’s Independence Day is “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan”—meaning Independence, Future and History—calls on the Filipino nation to protect the dignity of their achieved independence and build a secure and prosperous future.

Ambassador Kinglet said that every Filipino living abroad serves as an unofficial ambassador of the country. Their every cultural event, professional achievement, humanitarian initiative, and cordial behavior further strengthens the friendship and mutual cooperation between the Philippines and Bangladesh. She sought the cooperation of Filipinos living in Bangladesh in implementing the three pillars of the Philippines’ foreign policy by ensuring national security, economic security, and the rights and welfare of Filipinos abroad.

She also said that as the Philippines and Bangladesh celebrate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year, everyone must work together to further expand economic, cultural, and people-to-people contacts. She also highly praised the various social and cultural initiatives of the Philippine Society in Bangladesh (PSB) and called on the Filipino community to uphold the country’s dignity through unity, discipline, and mutual cooperation.

Kharen Samson, President of the Philippine Society in Bangladesh (PSB), delivered the welcome address at the event. She said that every Filipino living abroad carries the dignity of the country. The combined presence of professionals, families and students working in Bangladesh has built a strong and united Filipino community.

She said that independence is not just an achievement of the past, but a reflection of courage, responsibility and sacrifice in everyday life. The Philippine Society in Bangladesh is working towards this goal so that no one feels alone in a foreign land. She mentioned that mutual cooperation, compassion and the spirit of ‘Bayanihan’ are the greatest strengths of the Filipino society.

Kharen Samson also said that despite differences of opinion and different experiences, mutual respect, cooperation and human values strengthen a community. She thanked the Bangladesh government and people for welcoming the Filipino community warmly and said that these common values of family, culture, music, tradition and love for freedom have brought the people of the two countries closer.

The event showcased the culture and heritage of the Philippines with captivating dance and music performances. Traditional folk dances including Tinikling and Sayaw sa Bangko captivated the audience. In addition, patriotic and popular songs performed by Filipino artists enlivened the event.

An awards ceremony was held at this time, where the Philippine Ambassador Nina P. Kainglet presented awards to the winners for their contributions in various fields.

A colorful fashion show was held at the end of the event. In this, traditional costumes from different regions of the Philippines, including Barong Tagalog and Baro’t Saya, as well as modern designs were displayed. This performance, which was a beautiful combination of tradition and modernity, received wide appreciation from the audience.
