Desk Report:
Deputy Speaker of the National Parliament, Barrister Kaiser Kamal, MP, has stated that the prosperous Bangladesh of tomorrow will be built under the leadership of today’s youth.
He made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at the ‘Bangladesh Youth Model United Nations 2026’ (BYMUN 2026) conference—organized by ‘Future Bangladesh’—held on Friday (October 16, 2026) at the LD Hall of the National Parliament.

The Deputy Speaker emphasized the vision of a Bangladesh defined by the rule of law, transparency, accountability, and the guaranteed protection of fundamental human rights. He noted that the era of youth being solely fixated on achieving a ‘GPA-5’ has passed. He asserted that if young people channel their intellect and innovative thinking in a positive and inclusive manner, we will be able to realize the Bangladesh of our future—a nation where citizens are well-educated, possess humanistic qualities, and uphold democratic values.

Kaiser Kamal highlighted that the youth have spearheaded all major movements in Bangladesh. Citing the final fact-finding report published by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), he pointed out that many of those who lost their lives during the mass uprising of July–August 2024 were young people. He noted that the youth have consistently campaigned for social dignity and equal opportunity. Regrettably, he observed, Bangladesh has regressed across various indices since 2006; it is now essential to steer the nation back toward progress. He expressed optimism that by working together with the youth, Bangladesh can be transformed into a world-class nation.

He urged young people—even those who travel abroad for higher education—to return home and take the helm of leadership for the future of Bangladesh. He further encouraged the youth to raise their voices against corruption. Additionally, he suggested that young people observe parliamentary sessions to gain insight into how policy-making functions and how decisions are reached through debate and deliberation. He stated that we may have disagreements or differing opinions. When someone expresses a dissenting view during the decision-making process, it is essential to try to understand the reasoning behind it. Effective leadership involves creating space for others, which strengthens mutual trust and enables meaningful collaboration.
Notably, today marked the first day of a two-day conference. The event brings together nearly 500 young representatives—hailing from schools, colleges, and universities across all 64 districts of Bangladesh. Speakers during this session included Mahdi Amin, Advisor and Spokesperson at the Prime Minister’s Office; Professor Dr. S. M. Abul-Awal, Chief Coordinator for SDG Affairs at the Prime Minister’s Office; and Dr. David Dowland, Registrar of BRAC University, among others.
