Our main objective is to work in the interest of consumers: Trade Advisor

Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin said, our main objective is to work in the interest of consumers. It is not our objective to narrow trade.

He said this at a meeting with edible oil DO traders at the conference room of the Ministry of Commerce at the Secretariat on Tuesday (November 11) afternoon.

The Trade Advisor said, facilitating local and international trade is the main task of this ministry. We have no shortage of efforts to implement it.

Addressing the DO traders of edible oil, he said, “Your contribution is important in the supply of edible oil. I want your advice and cooperation to keep the market stable.”

You and I, referring to the consumers at the end of the day, the advisor said, “I and my ministry will work in the interest of the consumers in a very natural way. I will do what the people of the country need. I expect you (DO traders) to stand by the people of the country and us by cooperating and advising in that work.

All steps will be taken to establish the rights of consumers in the market. He also warned that he would not look at who will be in favor of those steps and who will be against them.

He also said that in the conventional way, raids are conducted at retail or medium sales centers to control the oil market. That is why these raids are not very successful. In the supply chain of any product, starting from the production or import level, DO traders, wholesalers and retailers must be brought under our purview. If the mill owners or you (DO traders) or both are involved in destabilizing the oil market Can.

I don’t think it’s right for a small shopkeeper to destabilize the market by hiding 500 bottles of oil under his bed. Dramas about oil recovery are aired on television. People across the country applaud but nothing is done. It is shown that the grocery shopkeeper did all the manipulation and no one is responsible. We want to identify the real culprit – we will not give anyone a chance to create anarchy in the edible oil market, he added.

Edible oil DO traders complained about not receiving products from mill owners on time and demanded a solution to this problem.

Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Mahbubur Rahman, Director General of the Department of Consumer Rights Protection Faruk Ahmed, Chairman of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh Brigadier General Mohammad Faisal Azad and edible oil DO traders were present at the meeting.
