The OIC Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar, Ambassador Ibrahim Khairat, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Secretary Ambassador Md. Jashim Uddin on Sunday (16 February, 2025) at his office in the Ministry. The Foreign Secretary extended his sincere thanks to the Special Envoy for visiting Bangladesh and for recognizing the importance of addressing the Rohingya crisis.
The meeting focused on strengthening humanitarian support and enhancing coordinated diplomatic efforts to ensure the repatriation of the Rohingyas to Myanmar. They discussed about the existing situation in the Arakan state and discussed the importance of working together to resolve the rohingya crisis.
The Foreign Secretary acknowledged and appreciated the OIC’s support for the ongoing Gambia vs. Myanmar case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). He urged the OIC and its Member States to increase their contributions to essential humanitarian assistance for the Rohingyas. Additionally, he called for the inclusion of the Rohingya repatriation issue in the OIC’s Ten-Year Plan of Action (2026-2035), emphasizing the need for the organization’s continued advocacy for the sustainable return of the Rohingyas to their homeland. The OIC Secretary General’s Special Envoy conveyed that the OIC is willing to work with the Government of Bangladesh to organize the High-Level Conference on the Situation of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar.
The Special Envoy also expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and reaffirmed the OIC’s commitment to working with its member states to provide the necessary support for the Rohingyas.
