Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said that no criminal will be spared no matter how prominent he is. No political identity will be considered in this case. Whoever belongs to the criminal group will be arrested and brought under the law.
The adviser said these things during a press briefing at the end of a special meeting regarding the review of the law and order situation in the Dhaka metropolitan area at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital on Wednesday (November 06, 2024).
The advisor said that the meeting mainly discussed how to improve the law and order situation in the Dhaka metropolitan area. He said that our law and order situation is better than before, but there is scope for further improvement. We are working towards that goal. He also said that the way the law enforcement forces have succeeded in controlling the law and order situation in Mohammadpur, the desired development of the law and order situation in Dhaka city will be done by applying the same model to other areas of the capital.

Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said that one of the problems in controlling the traffic system of the capital city of Dhaka is illegal shops on the roads. The concerned have been instructed to remove them. He said that another major problem in Dhaka’s traffic congestion is the introduction of pedal and battery-powered rickshaws on the main roads. Measures will be taken through the Ministry of Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources so that they cannot charge battery operated rickshaws through the charging points. At this time, the adviser directed the law enforcement officials to take necessary steps to stop extortion.
Coordination between the forces engaged in law and order control, increasing intelligence surveillance; Taking measures to prevent theft, robbery, extortion, kidnapping and extortion; Taking measures to prevent encroachment, especially at Mohakhali, Gabtali and Syedabad busstands/truckstands and extortion at floating markets including Jatrabari, Karwan Bazar, Kaptan Bazar; strengthening anti-narcotics operations by identifying drug hotspots and illegal arms recovery operations; Taking measures to prevent mob justice; Bringing crime-prone areas including Geneva Camp, various slums under CCTV surveillance; Ensuring permission of DMP for organizing any public meeting; Arranging public meetings at Suhrawardy Udyan instead of Shahbagh; Taking measures to prevent the emergence of juvenile gangs; Prevention of sidewalk occupation, taking measures to stop extortion on the sidewalk; enhancing vigilance on fraud, digital fraud, money laundering, capital market volatility; Taking measures against extortionists, middlemen, those involved in market manipulation to prevent price increase of daily commodities; There was a detailed discussion about taking measures to control traffic in Dhaka city.
The senior secretary of the public security department of the Ministry of Home Affairs chaired the meeting. Mohammad Abdul Momen, Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) AKM Shahidur Rahman, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Mainul Hasan NDC, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharaf Uddin Ahmad Chowdhury and other law enforcement agencies working in Dhaka Metropolitan Area were present. .
