No chance of ballot snatching from polling stations this time: Home Affairs Advisor

Desk Report:

There is no chance of miscreants snatching ballots from polling stations in the upcoming national elections, said Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.).

The advisor made these remarks as the chief guest at the ‘Quarterly Crime Review and Exchange Meeting’ organized by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police at the CID headquarters in Malibagh in the capital on Thursday (January 22, 2026) afternoon.

CID Chief and Additional IGP of Bangladesh Police Md. Chibgat Ullah presided over the program, and IGP Baharul Alam BPM spoke as the special guest.

The advisor said that in past national elections, only one armed policeman was deployed at each polling station. But this time, for the first time, at least five armed law enforcement officers will be deployed at each polling station. Of these, at least two will be armed police officers and three will be armed Ansar officers. However, six armed law enforcement officers, including three armed police officers, will be deployed at important polling stations. In addition, 10 unarmed Ansar officers (including batons) will be deployed at each polling station, of which six will be male Ansar officers and the remaining four will be female Ansar officers.

Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said that this national election will be the most free, transparent, impartial, peaceful and festive election in the history of Bangladesh, which will serve as a role model. He said that for this, the officers and law enforcement officers deployed in the election will have to perform their duties with 100% honesty, impartiality and professionalism. The advisor said that there are several important aspects of this election. For example, for the first time, training of law enforcement officers and use of body-worn cameras, installation of CCTV, use of drones and dog squads. Moreover, this time, expatriate voters, government officials and employees, officials and employees engaged in election duties and law enforcement officers will be able to exercise their voting rights by registering through the “Postal Vote BD” app.

The Home Affairs Advisor said that a record number of about nine lakh law enforcement officers will be on duty in the upcoming national elections. Along with the law enforcement officers, BNCC, Girls Guide and Scout members will also serve as collaborators. He said that law enforcement officers will be deployed in two phases across the country to control the law and order situation in the elections. Those who are currently deployed in the first phase will remain in force. In the second phase, there will be a vote-centric deployment, where law enforcement officers will be on duty for a total of 7 days from February 8 to 14.

The advisor distributed awards among officers of various levels of CID for their meritorious work at the event.
