Next national election to be held in a fair, peaceful and festive atmosphere: Home Affairs Advisor

Home Affairs and Agriculture Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said that the law and order situation in the country is still in a state where there does not seem to be a problem in holding the national election. He expressed hope that the next national election will be held in a fair, peaceful and festive atmosphere.

The advisor said this while briefing reporters after the 13th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order in the meeting room of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday (September 9, 2025). The advisor said that various important issues including preparations for the national election, student union elections of various universities, theft and robbery and drug control were discussed in the meeting.

Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said in response to a question from reporters that it would not be right to match the Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) election with the national election. The presiding officers and polling officers in the DUCSU elections are all highly educated. But this will not happen at the national level, this is a model. An election is being held after many years, of course it is a model. We hope that the election goes well.

Regarding the national elections, the Home Affairs Advisor said, we have discussed our preparations and training for the national elections. How to prepare and everyone should follow the training guidelines we have made. The police and other forces have started their training.

The Advisor said, drugs are the biggest enemy of our society, they will destroy the future generation if we all cannot suppress it. For this, I will seek everyone’s cooperation.

Regarding the prevention of smuggling on the Myanmar border, the Advisor said, the Arakan Army has occupied their entire border on the Bangladesh border. Their main income is from drugs. Now some of it has been converted to agriculture. The Advisor mentioned that a large amount of yaba is being seized on the Myanmar border.
Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Md. Khoda Baksh Chowdhury and Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Nasimul Gani were present at the time.
