National elections praised for neutral role of law enforcement agencies: Home Affairs Advisor

Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) has said that the national elections were praised for the neutral, responsible and unique role of various law enforcement agencies including the Army, Police, RAB, Ansar, BGB, Coast Guard.

The advisor made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the farewell reception organized by the Police Department at the ‘Hall of Integrity’ at the Police Headquarters today (February 16, 2026).

IGP Baharul Alam BPM delivered the welcome speech at the meeting. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat ​​Ali ndc, RAB (SIF) Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman BPM, among others, were present at the time. Additional IGP (Administration) of Police Headquarters Awlad Hossain delivered a vote of thanks.

The advisor said, “The ‘Thirteenth National Parliament Election and Referendum-2026’ will remain a role model in the history of Bangladesh’s elections, which has been praised both at home and abroad. For this, I express my sincere thanks and gratitude to the members of various law enforcement agencies, including the police.” He said, in a special cabinet meeting held yesterday, the Chief Advisor unreservedly praised the responsible role of the law enforcement agencies in the national elections.

Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said, “The position of the police has been elevated to a respectable level today, due to the collective efforts of everyone, from the state in which the police had fallen after August 5, 2024. The advisor expressed satisfaction for this and urged the police members present to strive to further elevate this respectable position of the police.”

Stating that there was no corruption in the appointment of members of various law enforcement agencies under the Home Ministry during the tenure of the interim government, the Home Affairs Advisor said, these appointments have been made with the utmost transparency, which is rare in the history of Bangladesh. He said, I can swear that at least my office did not lobby for these appointments.

The Advisor earlier attended the farewell reception organized by the Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard, Immigration and Passport Department and BGB. Later, the Advisor participated in the farewell reception organized by the Narcotics Control Department and Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Departments.
