National Assembly elections to be held in the first half of April next year: Chief Adviser

The Chief Adviser to the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has announced that the national assembly elections will be held in the first half of April next year. He said this in his address to the nation on Friday evening on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

The Chief Adviser said, ‘We will be able to implement the mandate you have entrusted to us, even if it is minimal. Considering that, we have discussed with all parties to organize the most free, fair, competitive and acceptable elections in history. In addition, after reviewing the ongoing reform activities related to justice, reform and elections, I am announcing to the countrymen today that the next national elections will be held any day in the first half of April 2026. Based on this announcement, the Election Commission will provide you with a detailed roadmap for the elections at an appropriate time.’

He said, ‘We want elections that will satisfy the souls of the martyrs of the coup, and their souls will find peace. We want the largest number of voters, candidates and parties to participate in the next election. Let it be remembered by the nation as the most free, fair and impartial election.’

Noting that a truly representative parliament will be formed in the country after a century and a half, the Chief Adviser said, a huge group of young people will get the opportunity to vote for the first time in their lives. We are committed to the nation to take all necessary steps towards these goals. I urge the countrymen to obtain specific commitments from all political parties and candidates in your areas so that they approve the reforms on which consensus has been achieved in the first session of the next parliament without any cuts.
