Desk Report:

In light of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the United States of America and the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, MV.MP ULTRAMAX 2 carrying 61,000 metric tons of wheat from the United States under the Cash Purchase Agreement No. G to G-03 has arrived at the outer anchorage of Chittagong Port.

Earlier, 58,457 metric tons of wheat have reached the country through the first shipment and 62,150 metric tons through the second shipment under the G to G-03 agreement.

The process of testing the samples of wheat kept on the ship has already started and necessary measures have been taken for the prompt unloading of the wheat. Out of the 61,000 metric tons of wheat kept on the ship, 29,450 metric tons of wheat will be unloaded in Chittagong and the remaining 31,550 metric tons will be unloaded at Mongla Port.

Bangladesh has already started wheat import activities from the United States on a government-to-government (G to G) basis. All the wheat imported under the G to G-01 and G to G-02 agreements has reached the country.

It is worth noting that 2,37,845 metric tons under G to G-01 and 2,30,039 metric tons under G to G-02—a total of 4,67,884 metric tons of wheat has arrived in the country.

The total demand for wheat in the country is about 7 million metric tons. The country produces about 1 million metric tons. To meet the demand, the remaining wheat is imported from abroad at the government and private levels.
