Md. Khurshid Alam is the new chairman of Islami Bank

Desk Report:

Former Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank Md. Khurshid Alam has been appointed as the new chairman of Islami Bank Bangladesh.

On Sunday (May 24, 2026), after the resignation of the bank’s chairman Professor Dr. M. Zubaidur Rahman, he was given the post by the central bank’s decision. Bangladesh Bank has also sent a formal letter to Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC in this regard.

Md. Khurshid Alam was appointed as the Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank in February 2024. The government gave him this responsibility on a contractual basis for three years. However, after the change of the then government in August 2024, he had to resign along with four senior officials of the central bank.

Later, he was appointed as the chairman of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC by a new decision.

On the other hand, the outgoing chairman of the bank, Professor Dr. M. Zubaidur Rahman, resigned.
