Desk Report:
State Minister for Health Dr. M. A. Muhith said that through the mobile surgical unit, medical services for complex diseases like heart disease will reach the doorsteps of the common people. This initiative will further accelerate the vision and mission of radically changing the healthcare system in Bangladesh as outlined in our election manifesto.
The State Minister said this while delivering the chief guest speech at the handover ceremony of the state-of-the-art ‘Mobile Medical and Surgical Unit’ (Mobile Van) as part of China-Bangladesh health sector cooperation at the National Heart Institute and Hospital on Wednesday (April 22, 2026).
The State Minister said that the mortality rate of non-communicable diseases, especially heart disease, is very high. This mobile vehicle will create an opportunity to extend the work of NICVD not only to Dhaka, but also to remote rural areas outside Dhaka. Through this, medical services for complex diseases like heart disease will reach the doorsteps of the common people. He added that the government’s main goal is to reduce deaths and disabilities due to non-communicable diseases.
The State Minister for Health said that like other sectors, the health sector has also suffered from corruption, lack of oversight and lack of proper planning in the last 15 years. However, the current government wants to reform and restructure the health system in such a way that government hospitals can meet the needs of the general public. The State Minister thanked the Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh and said that this mobile unit will also help in improving the skills of our health workers.
Dr. M. A. Muhith also said that it is the need of the hour to identify and give due importance to the priorities of our national health sector. Especially in the areas of hospital expansion, medical research and advanced training of doctors and health workers, we have a lot of opportunities to work with China. We need to find common areas in how our goals can be implemented more quickly through this bilateral cooperation in both research and service delivery.
