Ministry of Home Affairs issued a warning to protect the law and order of the country

A warning notice has been issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs today (September 3, 2024) for public information to protect the law and order of the country.

The notification informed, “On August 5, 2024, the interim government took over the responsibility of the country after the fall of the authoritarian government in the mass uprising of the students led by the ‘anti-discrimination student movement’.” The brutal force used by the fallen government to quell the popular uprising resulted in many deaths and casualties. Many people have been subjected to various tortures such as abduction, disappearance and extrajudicial killings during the long-term misrule. As a result, there is a lot of public anger towards the outgoing government. The interim government is determined to prosecute these atrocities.”

The circular further informs, “It is noted with concern that when the government has called on the United Nations to investigate the truth and initiate the judicial process with a clear promise of justice, some overzealous and self-interested quarters are taking the law into their own hands and in the name of protesting the institution in various cases.” Sieges, forced resignations, vandalism, arson, illegal searches, looting, extortion, tender bidding, pressure on the police to accept cases in droves, attacking the accused in court are trying to create instability. In this context, the government wants to assure everyone that a case does not mean random arrests. All these cases will be properly scrutinized and appropriate action will be taken.”

The warning notice said, “The government is making it clear that appropriate legal action will be taken against these activities that disturb public safety. The government will identify all the miscreants and take immediate action against them and take legal action irrespective of party affiliation.”

The warning notification also informs, “If there is a complaint against anyone, it should be reported to the superior officer and the department. No establishment can be surrounded or any kind of violent behavior.” On behalf of the government, the existing laws will be duly followed in the investigation and prosecution and measures will be taken to remove the harassing actions.”

In the circular, everyone has been sincerely invited to cooperate with the government in maintaining law and order.
