Media Reform Commission Report Handed Over to Chief Advisor

The interim government will take initiatives to implement the reform proposals received from the Media Reform Commission that are immediately implementable, said Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus.

The Chief Advisor made this remark while handing over the report of the Media Reform Commission at the State Guest House Jamuna on Saturday (March 22, 2025).

“We want to implement the reform proposals that are immediately implementable. For that, I would like the Reform Commission to submit to us the recommendations that need to be done immediately or can be implemented quickly,” said the Chief Advisor.

Terming this work of the Media Reform Commission led by senior journalist Kamal Ahmed as invaluable, he suggested working towards making this report available to other people, including students of journalism departments of universities.

After receiving information from the commission that Bangladeshi television channels cannot be viewed from abroad because domestic television channels are forced to use a specific satellite, the chief advisor said, “The government will take necessary measures so that Bangladeshis living abroad and interested foreigners can watch Bangladeshi television channels.”

Commission chief Kamal Ahmed and other members handed over their report to the chief advisor.

The other members of the commission are: Professor Gitiara Nasreen of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Dhaka University, Shamsul Haque Zahid, Editor of The Financial Express and Representative of the Editors’ Council, Anjan Chowdhury, Managing Director of Maasranga Television, Anjan Chowdhury, Managing Director of the Association of Television Owners (ATCO), Akhtar Hossain Khan, Secretary of the Newspaper Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOAB), Syed Abdal Ahmed, Former General Secretary of the National Press Club, Fahim Ahmed, CEO of Jamuna Television and Trustee of the Broadcast Journalist Center, Jimmy Amir, Convener of the Media Support Network, Mostafa Sabuj, Bogra District Representative of the Daily Star, Titu Dutta Gupta, Deputy Editor of Business Standard, and Abdullah Al Mamun, Student Representative.
