A discussion meeting was held to inform academia about Bangladesh Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI). The discussion meeting was organized at the MCCI office in Gulshan, the capital on Sunday (August 16, 2026) by a joint initiative of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) and Policy Exchange Bangladesh (PEB).

Students, researchers and teachers from various universities participated in the discussion meeting. The views and suggestions of academia on the effective use, implementation and widespread dissemination of Bangladesh PMI were highlighted in the program.

MCCI President Kamran T. Rahman delivered the welcome speech at the program. Then, PEB Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. M. Masrur Riaz delivered the introductory speech.
A brief presentation on Bangladesh PMI was given by PEB at the program. In the open discussion held after the presentation, participants expressed their views on the practical importance of PMI, its application in research and education, and its role in economic analysis.
The speakers in the discussion said that PMI is an important economic indicator in understanding the current status and dynamics of various sectors of the country’s economy. To further enhance the effectiveness and acceptability of this indicator, effective linkages and collaboration are needed between academia, researchers, and policymakers.
The discussion emphasized on further strengthening the relevance, reliability, and acceptability of PMI through the involvement of the academia.
