Water Resources Minister Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie said that Martyr President Ziaur Rahman’s canal excavation program was a revolution. This revolution has not been completed. If it had been completed according to Ziaur Rahman’s thinking, then self-reliant Bangladesh would have continued. He said that the unfinished work of canal excavation will be completed under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The minister said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the re-excavation of C Canal in Kafilatli area of Uttar Hamsadi Union of Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila on Friday (April 3, 2026).
The minister said that the current government is the elected government of the people. As a people-friendly government, rivers, canals and reservoirs are being excavated and re-excavated under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to provide irrigation for agricultural work, increase water flow, protect biodiversity and eliminate waterlogging. He said that there will be a radical change in agriculture through the excavation and re-excavation of rivers, canals and reservoirs.
The Water Resources Minister said that no matter how many obstacles and dangers arise, canal excavation and encroachment-free activities will continue – this is the expectation of the people. At this time, he called for the speedy completion of the ongoing development work.
The Minister also said that the people have got a patriotic government under the leadership of Tarique Rahman. Work is underway to implement the people’s important and long-standing demands. The current government has distributed family cards as a pilot; family cards will be given across the country in phases. Farmer cards will be distributed on Pahela Boishakh. He said that the government will implement everything in phases according to the people’s demands and expectations.
Lakshmipur-2 MP Abul Khair Bhuiyan presided over the inauguration ceremony, while Lakshmipur-1 MP Shahadat Hossain Selim, Deputy Commissioner SM Mehedi Hasan, Superintendent of Police Md. Abu Tarek and others were present.
