LDC Transition Needs Human Resource Capacity Building: Trade Adviser

Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin said Bangladesh is committed to ensuring dispute settlement in the multilateral trading system to provide security and predictability. The transformation of the LDC transition requires capacity building of our business organization and human resources.

He said this while addressing the chief guest at the inaugural session of the “World Trade Organization National Workshop on Dispute Resolution” at a local hotel in Dhaka on Tuesday (Dhaka, 3 December 2024).

The trade advisor said, Bangladesh is going to pass from LDC in November 2026, which is an important milestone in our economic journey. This change will create a lot of opportunities, but it will require strengthening the capacity of our business organization and human resources.

He said, as we move forward, Bangladesh will engage in bilateral and multilateral negotiations to establish the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and the Integrated Economic Partnership Agreement. In addition, we will deepen our relationship with regional business groups such as the EU, SASEC and ASEAN.

He added that the three-day workshop will enhance participants’ understanding of WTO rules and procedures and enhance their ability to apply this knowledge in their work.

Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Mohang Salim Uddin, Director of International Trade Organization Legal Affairs Division George Castro and Additional Secretary of WTO Division of the Ministry of Commerce. Nazneen Kawsar Chowdhury spoke.

Officials and business leaders of various ministries including the Ministry of Commerce will participate in the three-day workshop.
