Joint capabilities being showcased at Road and Belt Initiative Exhibition: Trade Adviser

Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin has commented that efforts are being made to showcase the joint capabilities of China and Bangladesh through the Road and Belt Initiative Exhibition.

He said, the exhibition is a platform for our mutual cooperation and sharing of ideas. Through this, efforts are being made to establish a connection between trade and investment.

He said this while talking to the media at the Belt and Road Initiative in Bangladesh Exhibition organized at the Bashundhara Convention Center in the capital on Friday (September 12).

The Trade Adviser said, Chinese investment in Bangladesh has increased by 300 percent. We need to find out our weaknesses. We need to move forward through exchange of experience. There is an opportunity to move forward if we can utilize China’s experience in production and packaging.

In response to a question about Bangladesh’s progress compared to China and Japan, Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin said, Bangladesh is ahead in many areas, including ready-made garments. Bangladesh is the world’s second largest exporter of ready-made garments, but overall we are lagging behind.

Stating that he has sought cooperation to increase road infrastructure and transport capacity, the advisor said, the number of people killed in road accidents in Bangladesh every year is horrific. In this regard, road infrastructure development and transport system need to be improved. We have sought cooperation from China, one of our development partners, in this regard.

In response to another question about reciprocal tariffs with the United States, Sheikh Bashiruddin said, a delegation from the US government is coming to Dhaka next Sunday to discuss the tariff issue. There will be discussions with the delegation on how to structure the tariffs.

8 Bangladeshi and 32 Chinese companies are participating in the ‘Belt and Road Initiative in Bangladesh Exhibition’ organized by the Chinese Embassy.

Organized with the aim of further strengthening economic, commercial and technological cooperation between Bangladesh and China, the exhibition will be attended by domestic and foreign companies, investors, government officials and technologists from various sectors.

The exhibition will feature companies working in various sectors including infrastructure, technology, telecom, health, agriculture, energy, transport and logistics, presenting their products and services.

The exhibition will be open to all visitors on September 12 and 13, from 10 am to 7 pm.
