Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami organized a national grand rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on Saturday, July 19, 2025. The rally, centered around the upcoming national parliamentary elections, was held to present a seven-point demand aimed at ensuring a free, fair, neutral, and peaceful election.
The program began with the recitation of the Holy Quran in the morning. Then a cultural program was held with the performance of the Saimum Shilpi Gosthi. The program was presided over by the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. While delivering a speech, he suddenly fell ill and fell on the stage.
The leaders and activists around him immediately helped him. After some time, he stood up again and spoke and said, “As long as Allah gives him life, the fight will continue, Insha Allah. This fight will continue until liberation is achieved.”
The Jamaat Ameer presented seven-point demands at the rally. The demands include: ensuring a level playing field during the elections, trial of all past genocides including July, necessary fundamental reforms, implementation of the July Charter and Declaration, rehabilitation of the families of those martyred and injured in the July 24 uprising, introduction of the PR (Proportional Representation) system in the national elections, and ensuring the voting rights of more than one crore expatriate Bangladeshis residing in different countries of the world.
At the beginning of his speech, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman paid tribute to all martyrs including Shaheed Abu Sayeed. He said, “If I get the opportunity to serve the people, I will not be a master, I will be a servant. If Jamaat-e-Islam forms the government, it will not commit any corruption, it will only ride in the car by paying taxes.”
বক্তব্যের শুরুতে ডা. শফিকুর রহমান শহীদ আবু সাঈদসহ সকল শহীদের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা জানান। তিনি বলেন, “মানুষের সেবা করার সুযোগ পেলে আমি মালিক হব না, সেবক হব। জামায়াতে ইসলাম সরকার গঠন করলে কোনো দুর্নীতি করবে না, শুল্ক দিয়েই গাড়িতে চড়বে।”
Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir Central President Zahidul Islam, Jatiya Nagorik Party Chief Organizer Sarjis Alam, NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Gana Adhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur, members of the martyr’s family, fighters of the July 24 movement, Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Amir, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Secretary General of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and Hefazat-e-Islam, and Shaheed Abrar’s father also spoke at the rally.
