A special event was organized at the Indian High Commission premises in Dhaka on Friday (October 2, 2026) to mark the 157th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation of India, Mahatma Gandhi. The event also served as the concluding ceremony for ‘Seva Paksha 2026’ (Fortnight of Service).

Shri Dinesh Trivedi, the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, addressed the gathering. He recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s eternal message of truth, non-violence, and selfless service, emphasizing the relevance of Gandhi’s ideals in contemporary society.
The event began with poster-making and quiz competitions featuring students from various universities and colleges in Dhaka. Conducted by renowned Bangladeshi quiz master Ferdous Bappi, these competitions focused on various aspects of Mahatma Gandhi’s life, philosophy, and contributions.
Subsequently, the concluding session of ‘Seva Paksha 2026’ took place. This segment commenced with an interfaith prayer involving children and the laying of floral tributes at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi.
The cultural segment featured performances by artists from ‘Geetimalika,’ a Bangladeshi musical organization. They presented songs cherished by Gandhi—such as ‘Vaishnava Jana To,’ ‘Jodi Tor Dak Shune,’ and ‘Raghupati Raghava’—alongside Rabindra Sangeet.
Later, a special presentation of Khadi garments was held, organized by ‘BishwoRang’ under the leadership of prominent Bangladeshi fashion designer Biplob Saha. Additionally, ‘Krishnapaksha’—a popular young band comprising Dhaka University students—performed folk and fusion music.
Stalls showcasing Khadi products were set up at the venue through the initiatives of ‘Friendship (Nodi Limited)’ and Pradip Kanti Saha of ‘Cumilla Khadi Ghar.’ Artifacts collected from the Gandhi Ashrams in Noakhali and Jamalpur were also displayed. The event was attended by members of the Indian community residing in Bangladesh, prominent figures from both India and Bangladesh, representatives of cultural organizations, individuals representing various religious communities in Bangladesh, and youths and students from various educational institutions in Dhaka.
