If the Tourist Police is made more active, it will make a big contribution to the country’s economy – Home Affairs Advisor

Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said that if the Tourist Police is made more active by solving the problems of manpower shortage, it will make a big contribution to the tourism sector and the overall economy of the country.

The advisor said this while briefing reporters after visiting the Tourist Police Headquarters on Topkhana Road in the capital on Thursday (March 06, 2025) afternoon.

The advisor said that although the Tourist Police was established in 2013, they have a lot of manpower shortage. They do not have their own accommodation. There are some other problems including transportation problems. He said that the Tourist Police Headquarters is operating an office in a rented building. They need their own building. Despite this, they are doing some good work. If the Tourist Police is made more active by solving the problems, many more foreign tourists will come to our country. He said that although the number of tourist police is very less, the number of tourist spots is very high. Therefore, their manpower needs to be increased.

In response to a question from journalists, Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said that no one except the law enforcement agencies has the right to conduct operations. Stating that it is important to create public awareness about mob justice, the advisor said that if such incidents occur anywhere, they are immediately brought under the law. The media also plays an important role in creating public awareness in this regard. He said that necessary instructions have been given to the law enforcement agencies to ensure that extortion and robbery do not occur on the roads on the occasion of Eid.

Earlier, the advisor exchanged views with senior officials of the tourist police and provided necessary directions. It was presided over by the Tourist Police Chief and Additional IGP Md. Mainul Hasan PPM, ndc. A power-point presentation on the activities of the tourist police was presented in the meeting.
