Head of the Bangladesh delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Alberto Bocanegra, paid a farewell call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shama Obaed Islam.

In the courtesy call held at the State Minister’s Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (July 26, 2026), Alberto Bocanegra briefed the State Minister about the various humanitarian activities and achievements of IFRC during his tenure in Bangladesh. He highlighted the organization’s role in disaster preparedness, climate resilience, healthcare, and assistance to displaced populations. At the same time, he expressed his sincere gratitude for the continuous cooperation and constructive support of the Bangladesh government during his tenure.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shama Obaed Islam congratulated Alberto Bocanegra on successfully completing his tenure and praised his leadership in IFRC’s activities in Bangladesh. He praised the organization’s important role in emergency response and humanitarian assistance, noting the long-standing contribution of IFRC as a development and humanitarian partner of Bangladesh since the Great Liberation War.
The State Minister expressed gratitude for IFRC’s continued assistance, especially in various natural disasters and climate-related emergencies, including floods and cyclones, and for its cooperation in addressing the Rohingya humanitarian crisis.
He emphasized the need to strengthen closer cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and IFRC in initiatives to increase climate resilience, especially with a focus on women and children.
At the end of the meeting, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs wished Alberto Bocanegra all the best in his future career and expressed hope that the close partnership between Bangladesh and IFRC would be further strengthened under the leadership of his successor.
