H.E. Yao Wen Attends the Opening Ceremony of the International Convention on “China-South Asia Civilization and Connectivity: History and Contemporary Issues”

On December 27, the international convention titled”China-South Asia Civilization and Connectivity: History and Contemporary Issues” commenced at North South University. The event was graced by H.E. Ambassador Yao Wen, Mr. Md. Touhid Hossain, Hon’ble Foreign Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor of NSU, numerous diplomatic representatives, and over 100 scholars from various countries.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Yao noted that this symposiumechoes China’s commitment to fostering such dialogue and reflects the shared aspirations of intellectuals in China and South Asia to advance regional prosperity through collaboration. The Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh will work closely with academic communities in both nations to launch more flagship academic exchange programs to deepen cultural exchanges between China and South Asia, support modernization amidst global transformations, and promote shared prosperity in the region and beyond.

Mr. Md. Touhid Hossain emphasized that China and South Asia share a common future, and only through mutual respect and joint efforts can the region achieve sustainable development and build a world free of poverty and marked by shared prosperity.

Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury pledged to continue building academic bridges between China and South Asia, fostering cultural exchanges, intellectual partnerships, and scholarly dialogue.

Co-hosted by North South University and Yunnan University, the symposium has drawn the participation of over 100 scholars from China, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and other nations. Over the course of two days, participants will engage in discussions on topics including cultural exchanges between China and South Asia, geopolitics, economic development, and emerging industries.
