Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said that the current interim government is working to improve the working environment and housing of police members.
The advisor made this statement while briefing reporters after unveiling the foundation stone of five (Adabor, Kadamtali, Bhasantek, Ramna and Rampura) police station buildings of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on the premises of the old Ramna Police Station Complex building in Ramna in the capital on Monday (September 29, 2025) afternoon.

The advisor said that there are a total of 50 police stations under the jurisdiction of DMP. Of these, 25 police stations operate in their own buildings and the remaining 25 police stations operate in rented houses. The working environment of the police stations established in rented houses, especially the housing, is poor and located in cramped spaces. That is why efforts are being made to quickly shift these police stations to their own buildings. Today’s effort is part of that. He said, we hope to be able to lay the foundation stone of three more police stations (Shahbag, Mugda and Bhatara) own buildings very soon. Our efforts to improve the working environment and housing of 50 police stations of DMP are continuing.

Stating that a special group is trying to create a stir in Khagrachhari, the advisor said, the biggest religious festival of the traditional religion, the autumn Durga Puja, is going on. He said, that group, which is friendly to the fascists, is trying to prevent this festival from being held in a proper religious atmosphere and with enthusiasm. Their plot will never succeed. Durga Puja will be held in a festive atmosphere.
IGP Baharul Alam BPM, DMP Commissioner Sheikh Sajjat Ali and others were present at the briefing.
It is to be noted that the above-mentioned police station buildings are being constructed under the “Construction of Administrative and Barrack Buildings of Bangladesh Police Police Stations in Various Locations of the Country” project. At a cost of Tk 1,624 crore, this project will increase infrastructural facilities by constructing new buildings in 107 dilapidated police station buildings. The project period is from July 2024 to June 2027 and the implementing agencies are the Public Works Department and Bangladesh Police.
