Government wants to provide cardiac care to remote areas: Minister for Social Welfare and Women and Children

A two-day international scientific conference ‘BD Intervention 2026’ organized by the Bangladesh Society of Cardiovascular Interventions (BSCI) began on Friday (April 1, 2026) at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital. Minister for Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Abu Zafar Md. Zahid Hossain inaugurated the conference as the chief guest.

At the inaugural ceremony, the minister said that heart disease is one of the health challenges in Bangladesh. The current government is giving utmost importance to the development of the medical sector. The government wants to provide world-class cardiac care to remote areas of the country through the Ministry of Health with modern technology and expert doctors.

He said that the cooperation of heart doctors is needed to improve the healthcare services of women and children suffering from heart disease in our country. International conferences like ‘BD Intervention 2026’ will take Bangladesh forward in heart disease treatment by enhancing the skills of young doctors and exchanging knowledge. The government will provide all-out support to such initiatives.

At this time, the minister laid special emphasis on increasing public awareness, healthy lifestyle and preventive measures to prevent heart disease.

Director General of the Directorate General of Health, Professor Dr. Prabhat Chandra Biswas said, through this conference, our doctors are getting acquainted with the latest international research and technology. This will significantly improve the quality of cardiac care in the country.

Director General of the Directorate General of Health Education, Professor Dr. Nazmul Hossain mentioned, the training village and fellows course for young doctors are very timely initiatives. Through this, the next generation of interventional cardiologists will be developed.

BSCI President, Professor Dr. Khalequzzaman, in his presidential address, said, the main goal of this conference is to introduce interventional cardiologists of Bangladesh to global technology. We want to work together and ensure world-class cardiac care for patients in Bangladesh.

The main attractions of this year’s conference are live case transmission from Dhaka and China, lectures by world-renowned cardiologists from different continents, hands-on training village for young doctors, fellows courses and case competitions, and discussions on structural heart disease, coronary and peripheral interventions.

More than 1,100 local and foreign cardiologists are participating in this mega event. Organizers say that this conference will have a long-term positive impact on heart disease treatment in Bangladesh.
