LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir delivers message of peace and harmony on Buddha Purnima

On Friday (May 1, 2026), a colorful program was organized by the Bangladesh Buddhist Federation at Merul Badda in the capital on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, one of the main religious festivals of Buddhists. Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who was present as the chief guest at the program, delivered a message of unity, harmony and peace. Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan was present as a special guest.

At the beginning of the program, renowned educationist Professor Dr. Sukomal Barua, who received the Swadhinata Padak, was felicitated. At this time, the guests present expressed deep gratitude to him, remembering his contribution with respect.

In his speech as the chief guest, the minister said that religion is established for the welfare of people. All religions of the world teach human welfare, peace and compassion. He emphasized on establishing human values ​​by avoiding all forms of violence, hatred, war and conflict.

He also said that it is possible to make the country prosperous and self-sufficient by facing all challenges while maintaining mutual harmony. He called on everyone to forget their differences and unite under the Bangladeshi identity and build a happy and developed country.

Speaking as a special guest, Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan said that the joint efforts of people of all religions are essential for the development and progress of the country. He called on everyone to work unitedly in the national interest.

Opposition Chief Whip Md. Nahid Islam and Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam were also present at the event.

The significance of Buddha Purnima was highlighted at the event through religious discussions, prayers and cultural performances. The speakers expressed hope that such events would play an important role in spreading the message of peace, harmony, and human welfare in society.
