Government reduces palm oil price by 19 taka per liter

The government has reduced the price of palm oil by 19 taka per liter. With this, palm oil will now be sold at 150 taka per liter in Dhaka, which was previously 169 taka. This price adjustment is also made in the local market as the price decreases in the international market.

Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman announced the new price of palm oil at a press conference organized by the Ministry of Commerce today, Tuesday (August 12, 2025).

The Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission monitors the supply and demand of edible oil in the international and local markets. Due to the recent decline in the price of palm oil in the international market, the price of open palm oil per liter has been reduced from 169 taka to 150 taka on the recommendation of the commission. In this, consumers will be able to buy palm oil at a discount of 19 taka per liter. However, soybean oil will remain unchanged at 189 taka per liter (bottle).

Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman said that palm oil is capturing 60 percent of the country’s edible oil market. The decision to reduce the price has been made due to the decrease in the price of palm oil in the international market. However, the price of soybeans has remained unchanged in the local market.

The last price of soybeans and palm oil was fixed on April 15.
