Desk Report:

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed met with a high-level delegation of the US-Bangladesh Business Council (USBBC) at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday (August 11, 2026) afternoon.

During the meeting, various issues of bilateral interest, including bilateral trade, investment growth, and energy and security cooperation between the United States and Bangladesh, were discussed.

During the meeting, the Minister reiterated the strong commitment of the current government to create an investment-friendly environment in Bangladesh and ensure overall security for foreign investors. He said that Bangladesh currently has immense opportunities for foreign direct investment. The government has ensured a customs-facility-friendly environment for the convenience of investors.

Welcoming the increase in US investment in Bangladesh, the minister said that the government has created the necessary legal and administrative framework to launch a one-stop service called ‘Invest Bangladesh’ to bring the investment process under one umbrella and simplify the process. The administrative and legal facilities in this regard have been well-organized over the last 5-6 months. In addition, the government is also examining various proposals related to setting up LNG terminals in strategically important places in the country, which will diversify the country’s energy sector and increase overall security.

The minister also said that a large investment opportunity is being created from the government-to-government (G2G) level in the field of food grains and fuel supply. Initiatives have been taken to introduce digital security, ‘Safe City’ project under smart policing system, ‘Integrated Border Management’ in border security and e-visa (e-visa).

The US-Bangladesh Business Council (US-BBC) President said that major US companies have been successfully operating in Bangladesh for the past few decades and are currently one of the major investors in Bangladesh. Highlighting the immense potential of Bangladesh, he said that the Bangladesh economy is expected to reach $1 trillion by 2034. To achieve this goal, it is very important to develop technical and managerial capacity, as well as increase GDP growth and tax productivity. He discussed how US companies can support and partner with the government in this development process.

The meeting was led by Atul Keshap, President of the US-Bangladesh Business Council (USBBC) and Senior Vice President (South Asia) of the US Chamber of Commerce, along with 16 members of business leaders and senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
