State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said, we are working for the welfare of the people from our respective positions with utmost sincerity in running the country. You should have faith in the government.
The State Minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at the introduction meeting and Iftar Mahfil of the newly elected Executive Council of the Press Club organized at the VIP auditorium of the Tangail Press Club on Friday (February 27, 2026).
The State Minister said that the government is playing a liberal and positive role in the freedom of the press and there is no interference in this regard. He said that journalists will be able to perform their professional duties completely independently and impartially.
The State Minister emphasized on responsible journalism and said that the constructive and positive role of the media is important in the development of the country, upholding democratic values and maintaining social order. He expressed hope that journalists will play a leading role in nation building by presenting objective and information-based news.
Salauddin Tuku further said that yesterday, as a groundbreaking step, the government waived off agricultural loans of marginal farmers up to a maximum of Tk 10,000 along with interest. He said that as a result of this decision, small and marginal farmers will get immediate financial relief.
Highlighting the various developmental initiatives of the government, the State Minister said that work is being done relentlessly to implement the promises made by the government to ensure the overall welfare of the people. He said that the family card and agricultural card distribution program is ongoing to strengthen social security and agricultural support. He further said that necessary steps have been taken to reduce the production costs of marginal and small farmers and make agriculture profitable by making fertilizers, pesticides and other agricultural inputs easily available and affordable.
Recalling the promises made before the election, the State Minister said that the administration has already started coordinated activities to build Tangail free from extortionists, juvenile gangs and drugs. He also mentioned that strict steps are being taken to maintain law and order and social stability.
Tangail Press Club President Ataur Rahman Azad presided over the meeting, which was attended by District Commissioner Sharifa Haque and Tangail Police Superintendent Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar as special guests. Journalists, officials from various government and private departments and leaders of political parties were present at the meeting.
