Government Benefits for Newspapers and TV Channels to Increase: Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuz Alam

Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Mahfuz Alam has said that government support and facilities for newspapers and private television channels will be increased. At the same time, media owners must ensure better benefits and facilities for journalists.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the “Meet the Reporters” program organized by the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) at its Shafiqul Kabir Auditorium on Sunday (October 26, 2025) afternoon.

Emphasizing the importance of raising journalists’ salaries, Adviser Mahfuz Alam said, “The government plans to set a minimum entry-level salary for journalists. Any media outlet that fails to pay journalists this minimum wage will not be eligible for government facilities or support.”

He further stated that the government will digitize the private television broadcasting system. “Once the system becomes digital, it will be possible to know exactly how many viewers are watching each television channel. Channels with better performance will receive more advertisements, which will help increase their revenue,” he added.
