Government and Bishwa Shahitya Kendra to work together to increase reading habits among students

Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed, founder of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra and eminent educationist, met with Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office, Cabinet Division, Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday (April 23, 2026).

The meeting was attended by Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon, Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury, State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khayyam, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj, and Prime Minister’s Advisors Mahdi Amin and Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman.

Senior officials of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs were also present in the meeting.

The meeting discussed in detail ways to instill the habit of reading books among primary, secondary and higher secondary level students. The government and the World Literature Center have decided to work together to increase the reading habits of students.

Those concerned said that this initiative will not only create a generation of readers in the country but also pave the way for building a knowledge-based society.
