Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin met with the newly appointed German Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr. Rüdiger Lotz. The meeting was held at the Trade Advisor’s office at the Secretariat on Tuesday (October 7, 2025) afternoon.
The meeting discussed various aspects of bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Germany in detail.
Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin said that Bangladesh and Germany have excellent bilateral trade relations. To strengthen this relationship, it is necessary to diversify the trade of both countries. Through this, both countries have the opportunity to benefit.
He said that Germany is the second largest export destination for Bangladeshi products after the United States, which is 10.96% of our total export earnings. At the same time, the advisor called on German importers to import more ready-made garments, home textiles, medicines, plastic products, footwear, bicycles and leather products from this country.
German Ambassador Rudiger Lotz said that Germany is interested in working together to develop trade relations with Bangladesh. His country will keep the ongoing activities with Bangladesh dynamic to advance the trade multilateralization process to develop economic relations. He also praised the growth of Bangladesh’s economic capacity.
It is worth noting that Bangladesh exported goods worth 4850.89 million US dollars to Germany in the fiscal year 2023-2024 and paid for imports worth 940.60 million US dollars.
Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Mahbubur Rahman and Deputy Head of Mission of the German Embassy Anja Christen were present in the meeting.
