Today, Monday (March 30, 2026), the funeral prayers for Dilara Hafiz, wife of Speaker of the National Assembly, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, MP, were held at the South Plaza of the National Assembly. The funeral prayers were conducted by the Pesh Imam Qari Md. Abu Raihan of the Bangladesh National Assembly Secretariat.
At the beginning of the funeral, Barrister Kaiser Kamal, MP, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Bangladesh, read a brief biography of the late Dilara Hafiz.
The Chief Whip of the National Assembly of Bangladesh, Md. Nurul Islam, MP, delivered speeches at the event; Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman, MP; Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General and Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, MP; and the late husband of the deceased, Bangladesh National Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, MP.
Speaker of the Bangladesh National Parliament Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram expressed gratitude to all those present at the funeral. The Speaker mentioned the successful 56-year married life with his wife. He said that Dilara Hafiz was a teacher by profession and decorated the post of Director General of Maushir. He also mentioned that both of them were beloved by former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
After the funeral, Prime Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Tarique Rahman, MP; Public Affairs Secretary, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, MP; On behalf of BNP, party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, MP; Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal, MP; Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam, MP and other whips and officials including the Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat.
After paying homage, prayers and supplications were offered seeking forgiveness for the departed soul.
It is worth noting that the second funeral of the late Dilara Hafiz was buried at the Banani Military Cemetery.
Cabinet members, members of the BNP Standing Committee, members of the opposition party, senior officials including the Secretary of the National Parliament Secretariat and the general public of Bhola-3 constituency, various media personnel were present at the event.
