“Frames of Memory” Film Festival Inaugurates at Russian House in Bangladesh

Diplomatic Desk:

The week-long film festival “Frames of Memory: From Moscow to Bangladesh” began in the capital on Thursday (May 14, 2026) at the initiative of the Russian House in Bangladesh, organized to mark Russia’s 81st Victory Day.

Students from various universities, Russian language students, scholarship candidates and representatives of the cultural sphere participated in the opening ceremony. The organizers said that the main goal of the festival is to preserve historical memory through film and further strengthen cultural dialogue between Bangladesh and Russia.

Speaking at the ceremony, Alexandra Khlevnoy paid tribute to the memory of millions of people who lost their lives in World War II and recalled the terrible humanitarian toll of the war. She said that cinema preserves the truth of history and plays an important role in inspiring future generations on the path of peace and humanity.

After the opening ceremony, the audience was shown a psychologically analytical presentation of the timeless Soviet film Ballad of a Soldier, followed by the full film. The emotional portrayal of wartime reality, sacrifice and human resilience deeply moved the audience.

The festival, which runs until May 21, will screen selected important films from the Soviet and later periods, highlighting the “frames” of history and art, organizers said.
