FICCI, in partnership with JETRO, JCIAD, and HSBC Bangladesh, hosted a successful seminar titled “JAPAN-BANGLADESH COLLABORATION: ENHANCING FDI & ECONOMIC PARTNERSHIP” on Tuesday (26 November 2024) at The Sheraton Dhaka. Supported by the Embassy of Japan, JICA, and JBCCI, the event aimed to strengthen economic ties and promote Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) between Japan and Bangladesh.

Mr. Lutfey Siddiqi, Special Envoy on International Affairs to the Chief Advisor, graced the event as the Chief Guest. Mr. Ashik Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) & BEZA and H.E. M IWAMA Kiminori, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, attended as Special Guests.

Keynote speakers, including Mr. Yuji Ando, Country Representative, JETRO Bangladesh, and Mr. Tomohide Ichiguchi, Chief Representative, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Bangladesh, highlighted opportunities and challenges in business and investment in Bangladesh through their presentations on “Business Opportunities and Challenges of Doing Business in Bangladesh” and “Investment Promotion in Bangladesh and JICA’s Engagement” respectively.

The seminar also featured a panel discussion, moderated by Mr. Uegaki Hiroshi, GM & Country Representative, Mitsubishi Corporation. The panelists included Mr. Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan (Jun), President, JBCCI; Mr. Mohammad Shariful Alam, Country Manager, Mitsui & Co. Asia Pacific PTE Ltd.; Mr. Manabu Sugawara, Director, FICCI & General Manager, Marubeni Corporation; and Mr. Gintautas Dirgela, Director, Corporate Affairs & Communications, JTI & Member, JCIAD. They discussed ongoing challenges and opportunities for enhancing Japan-Bangladesh economic collaboration, particularly in the areas of FDI, industrial development, and infrastructure improvements.
FICCI President Mr. Zaved Akhtar and Mr. Atsushi Hirakuru, President of JCIAD, emphasized the importance of collaboration to drive sustainable economic growth and foster a thriving investment climate.
