Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury said that expatriate cards will be introduced for expatriates very soon as per the election manifesto. He said that steps will be taken to legalize 25,000 illegal Bangladeshis residing in Spain in that country.
The minister said these while briefing journalists on various issues at Sylhet Circuit House on Saturday (February 28, 2026).
The minister said that in the 180-day priority-based program that we have undertaken, according to the guidelines given by our Prime Minister, steps are being taken to reopen the closed labor markets—especially in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and countries where labor markets are closed.
Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said that so far, our daily necessities market has been stable and we will be able to keep it stable in the coming days as well.
Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury said, “Floods occur here due to the influx of water from across the border. Keeping this area flood-free is a challenge for us. We will be able to face this challenge. Whatever is needed on an urgent basis to protect this area from river erosion will be done as needed.”
Earlier, the ministers exchanged views with officials of various government departments of Sylhet at the Circuit House on the ongoing development of the district.
