At the invitation of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the European Union (EU) has deployed an Election Observation Mission (EOM) to observe the 13th National Parliamentary Elections to be held on February 12, 2026.

In continuation of this, on Tuesday (January 13), at 3 pm, Professor Ali Riaz, Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor (Advisor Rank) and Chief Coordinator for Public Awareness Activities on the 13th National Parliamentary Elections and Referendum, paid a courtesy call on the European Union Election Observation Mission’s Political Analyst Marcel Negi and Election Analyst Vasil Vaschenko.
Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor (Consensus) was present at the time.

During the meeting, the representatives of the EU Election Observation Mission briefed the Principal Coordinator on the objectives and structure of their observation activities. They said that the core team of the mission, consisting of about 200 observers and an 11-member analysis team, arrived in Dhaka on 29 December 2025.
On 17 January 2026, 56 long-term observers will be deployed across the country, who will observe the electoral process in their designated areas and submit regular reports to the core team. In addition, 90 short-term observers will join the mission a few days before the elections to observe the voting, vote counting and tabulation of results. Several other short-term observers from the European Union diplomatic community and partner countries will also be included in the mission.
The mission representatives also said that the mission will present an evidence-based, comprehensive and impartial analysis of the entire electoral process, following the specific and international standards-based observation methodology of the European Union.
The mission will release its initial report on February 14, 2026 in Dhaka and a press conference will be organized on this occasion. The report will be published on the mission’s website and social media.
After the election process is complete, a detailed final report will be presented to all stakeholders. It will include necessary recommendations for the development of the future electoral system and will also be published on the mission’s website.
At the time, Professor Ali Riaz said, “The European Union Election Observation Mission will be provided with all kinds of support from the government.”
