EU Meets BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, Reiterates Support for Smooth Elections

The European Union (EU) held a meeting with BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Monday (19 January 2026), reaffirming its support for smooth, peaceful, and credible elections in Bangladesh and for further strengthening EU–Bangladesh relations.

The meeting was attended by EU Ambassador Miller along with all seven resident EU Heads of Mission in Bangladesh. During the discussion, the EU delegation conveyed a clear message of support for democratic processes, institutional reforms, and political stability in the country.

The EU representatives emphasized that the European Union remains one of Bangladesh’s most steadfast political partners and its top commercial partner. They reaffirmed the EU’s continued commitment to supporting ongoing reforms, economic growth, and job creation in Bangladesh.
