Diplomatic Desk:
Fuel security is now a top priority for Bangladesh—and a key issue for the European Union (EU). In this context, a major initiative called “Bangladesh Renewable Energy Facility (BREF)” has been launched, which will accelerate investment and development in renewable energy under the Global Gateway.

The facility will work by combining financing and technical expertise, thereby paving the way for large-scale implementation of effective projects. A strong pipeline of solar and wind energy projects has already been built. The main goal now is to ensure bankable projects, proper preparation and rapid implementation.

At a high-level event titled “Boosting Renewable Energy in Bangladesh – from Design to Implementation” held recently in Dhaka, the Bangladesh government and Team Europe partners, including the European Investment Bank, expressed a strong commitment to increase investment in renewable energy.

In addition, the European Union will provide necessary policy reforms and guarantee support to increase private investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency in the future.
Experts believe that this initiative will play an important role in bringing about a sustainable transformation in Bangladesh’s energy sector and strengthen energy security in the long term.
