Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh SAIDA Shinichi called on Industries Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir at his office in Motijheel, the capital, on Monday (April 13, 2026).
During the meeting, the Industries Minister referred to Bangladesh’s historic friendly relations with Japan and said that Japan is a long-standing development partner and sincere friend of Bangladesh. Japan is making an important contribution to the socio-economic development and industrialization of Bangladesh. He emphasized on working on the basis of mutual cooperation on issues of common interest.
The Japanese Ambassador said, “We have a long-standing friendly relationship with Bangladesh. This trend will continue in the future as well.” He also expressed his determination to stand by Bangladesh’s economic development in the future as in the past.
He welcomed Bangladesh’s proposal to set up a ship recycling facility, i.e. Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility (TSDF) in Sitakunda, Chittagong and said that the feasibility study will be conducted soon and implementation activities will be taken.
At the time, the Industries Minister called for taking initiatives to manufacture automobiles in Bangladesh in light of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation under the Ministry of Industries and Japanese industrial companies Mitsubishi and Toyota.
Industries Secretary Md. Obaidur Rahman, Additional Secretary Md. Nuruzzaman ndc, Joint Secretary Sahela Akhter, Chief First Secretary of the Economic Relations Division of the Japanese Embassy in Dhaka KARASAWA Shinju and First Secretary of the Economic Division TSUKO Daisuke were present at the time.
