ECNEC meeting approves 12 projects worth Tk 8,149.38 crore

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Sunday (July 27, 2025) approved 12 projects worth Tk 8,149.38 crore.

The approval was given at the ECNEC meeting held at the NEC Conference Room on the Planning Commission premises today under the chairmanship of ECNEC Chairperson and Principal Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

Out of the 12 approved projects, six are new, four are revised and two are projects with extension of period without increase in cost.

Planning Advisor Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud briefed the journalists after the meeting.

The 12 projects approved in today’s meeting are – a project of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Road Construction from Kalurghat Bridge to Chaktai Canal along the banks of the Karnaphuli River (2nd Revised 4th Extension) Project. Two projects of the Ministry of Home Affairs (1) ‘Establishment of 20 (12 new and eight fire stations reconstructed) Fire Service and Civil Defence Stations at important locations of the country’ and (2) ‘Development of Logistics and Freight Maintenance Facilities for Bangladesh Coast Guard (Proposed 2nd Amendment). Two projects of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, (1) ‘Rural Sanitation Project’ and (2) ‘Drilling of Canal from Bahaddarhat Badraipara to Karnaphuli River’ (3rd Amendment). One project of the Ministry of Railways, ‘Maintenance and Rehabilitation of Railway Lines of Eastern Zone of Bangladesh Railways’. One project of the Ministry of Defence, ‘Construction of Officers Mess and BOQ of DSCSC at Mirpur Cantonment’ (1st Amendment). One project of the Ministry of Education, ‘Further Development of Dhaka University’ Project. A project of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, ‘Income Generating (IGA) Training for Women at Upazila Level (Phase 2)’. A project of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, ‘Expansion of Museum Building and Construction of Other Infrastructure of Bangladesh Folk and Crafts Foundation’ (1st Revised 4th Extension). A project of the Ministry of Agriculture, ‘Strengthening of Kandal Crop Research Project’. A project of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, ‘Smart Pre-Payment Metering Project in Distribution Zones of BPDB (1st Revised)’ project has been approved.

In today’s meeting, the ECNEC members were informed about the 18 projects already approved by the Planning Advisor. They are- 1. Rural Road Rehabilitation Project (2nd Revised), 2. Hilsa Resource Development and Management (2nd Revised) Project, 3. Pesticide Risk Reduction in Bangladesh (2nd Revised) Project, 4. Union Level Fish Farming Technology Service Expansion Project (3rd Phase), 5. Elephant Conservation Project, 6. Construction of Flood Shelters in Flood-Prone and Erosion-Prone Areas (3rd Phase) (2nd Revised), 7. Capacity Building of Bangladesh Safe Food Authority (2nd Revised), 8. Essential Management Support Project of Gazipur Safari Park, 9. Increasing Farm Machinery Research Activities for Mechanized Paddy Cultivation (2nd Revised), 10. Network Expansion of GNSS CORS and Modernization of Tidal Stations (2nd Revised), 11. Infrastructure Development of Talna Area Adjacent to 300 Feet Purbachal Road of Ward No. 43 under Dhaka North City Corporation, 12. Integrated Urban Infrastructure Development of Rajshahi Metropolitan City (1st Revised), 13. Construction of Ansar and Village Defense Force Armories (40 in 1st Phase) (2nd Revised), 14. Infrastructure development and expansion of Bangladesh Navy Dockyard Technical Institute in Chittagong, 15. Feni Municipality Infrastructure Development Project (2nd revised), 16. Reconstruction of Jamalpur District Jail (1st revised), 17. Establishment of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College and Hospital (2nd revised), 18. Collection and preservation of audio-visual documents of the Students’ and People’s Uprising-2024 from domestic and foreign sources and 2 name changes of the project 1. Establishment of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novotheater, Barisal (2nd revised) instead of Novotheater, Barisal (2nd revised) 2. Irrigation Development Project in Kushtia, Meherpur and Chuadanga districts instead of Mujibnagar Irrigation Development Project (2nd revised).
