Bangladesh The Europe Bangladesh Federation of Commerce & Industry (EBFCI), Bangladesh Region, hosted a Celebration of Installation and Business Networking Reception in honour of Dr. Wali Tasar Uddin, MBE, DBA, D.Litt, marking his appointment as Honorary Consul of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Scotland.


The programme was hosted by Ms. Dipty Chowdhury, who welcomed guests and guided the evening’s proceedings.

The event was held on 7th January 2026 at Hyatt Palace, Uttara, Dhaka, with the participation of senior government officials, diplomats, business leaders, academics, legal professionals, and EBFCI members.

The programme formally opened with welcome remarks by Mr. Mohammad Ali Tinku, Country Head, EBFCI-Bangladesh Region, followed by a presentation highlighting EBFCP’s role in promoting trade, investment, and international cooperation between Bangladesh, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and global partners.

A senior representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered official remarks recognising the diplomatic appointment and reaffirming the Government of Bangladesh’s support for economic diplomacy and international engagement.

Distinguished speakers included Professor Tasleem Shakur, FRSA, FBIP, FIAB, Distinguished Professor, Sonargaon University and Advisor, ICDES: Mr. Manzil Morshed, President, Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh and Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; and Air Commodore (Retd.) Muhammad Parvez Islam, BPP, NDC, PSC, ADWC, former senior officer of the Bangladesh Air Force and UN contingent commander, who shared perspectives on governance, sustainability, leadership, and global responsibility.

From the business and industrial sector, Mr. Faruque Hassan, Former President of BGMEA, Chairman of Giant Group, and Honorary Consul General of Greece in Dhoka; Mr. Mohammad Hatem, President, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA); and Mrs. Maksuda Chowdhury Misha, Managing Director, Stylish Garments Limited; Director, EBFCI and BPCCI; and Co-Chairman, BGMEA Standing Committee, spoke on sustainability, export competitiveness, women’s leadership, and industrial growth.

Additional remarks ere delivered by Dr. M. Helal, Government-accredited Journalist and Editor of The University Compus; Mr. Saquat Ali, CEO and Founding Partner, Aequitaz Capitol; Alhajj Mohammad Fazlul Haque, CDYW (UK), Founder of Jatiya Tarun Sangha and former Acting Mayor of Undivided Dhaka City Corporation; and Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun, Senior Advocate, Bangladesh Bar Council and Chairman, Legal Education Committee, highlighting youth development, finance, governance, and legal frameworks.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Wali Tasar Uddin, President of EBFCI and Honorary Consul of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Scotland. In his remarks, he reaffirmed his commitment to serving Bangladesh in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and to strengthening international cooperation in trade, investment, education, skills development, innovation, culture, and tourism across the UK, the EU, and globally.
The programme concluded with a Business Networking Reception, facilitating strategic dialogue and partnership-building among policymakers, investors, and industry leaders across multiple sectors.
